You can now purchase, under-counter refrigerators, storage cabinets, kitchen islands, vent hoods, beer dispensing units, sink with disposal, dishwasher, a wet bar, built in entertainment centers with TV or audio/intercom systems.
Grills and barbeques have also come of age they are no longer limited to grilling meat and roasting a few marshmallows. Some of the sophisticated units are equipped with built in smokers, commercial-quality woks, warming drawers and pizza ovens. A gas patio heater can also help to keep your outdoor kitchen comfortable all year round.
Another option to help keep your outdoor kitchen cranking 365 days a year is to make sure it is partially sheltered overhead or housed in a gazebo. You may also want to add screens, trellises, or a bifold/sliding door into the design to keep the area sheltered from the elements.
For the basic outdoor kitchen you can expect to pay around $3000 for one with a good quality grill, 6ft long counter and patio. If you want to throw in a few more appliances and outdoor luxuries you can expect to pay approx $15,000 and up.
When planning this outside space, make sure you choose equipment and materials that are designed to endure life "outside" as well as complying with all the relevant safety standards.
