LCD Projector Rental
Trial before you buy
LCD Projectors are very expensive pieces of equipment and if you need a projector as a one off it might be cheaper to rent one rather than to buy one outright. There are other types of projectors available on the market, so if you are looking specifically for an LCD projector, be careful that you don't choose a standard overheard projector, or a video projector, for example.
Another good reason to opt for LCD projector rental, is to help you to make an informed choice when the time comes to buy one. Be careful though - you could end up spending thousands of dollars just trying different projectors out and still be none the wiser. If you are buying from a reputable and helpful dealer, you may be able to take some projectors home on approval. At the very least it is worth asking because you could save yourself a lot of money that could be better invested in a higher quality projector.
If you have decided to rent an LCD projector, the first decision you have to make is whether to go with a local company or a firm that operates nationwide. There are advantages and disadvantages to both options. Companies that hire their products nationwide often have a wider choice than local dealers, so you are more likely to find exactly what you need but you will end up paying more. Locally, you might be able to hire a base entry 1500 lumen SVGA LCD projector for around $79 per day, but if you were to hire something similar from a nationwide hirer it could set you back around $250.
LCD projectors are very fragile and can easily be damaged. This is an area where local dealers are at a huge advantage because if anything goes wrong, you can probably get the company to help you out, either by repairing or replacing the projector. Always look into repair policies before hiring from companies and be wary of dodgy offers. Some companies seem to promise more than their price should offer, and you can often end up paying much more in the long run if you don't do your research properly.
Choosing a projector model can also be difficult. Think about what you want to use the projector for. Obviously, projectors with higher resolutions are more expensive to hire, so there is little point in hiring a state of the art projector if you are only showing a simple PowerPoint presentation. If you need to move the projector around a lot a lightweight projector is essential, but it will cost you more. The most important choice to make is regarding the brightness, which is specific to the type of presentation you are giving and the room you are giving it in. The success of your presentation is dependent on your audience and if the projector is too dull then you immediately have an obstacle to overcome.
