Toilet Tents - An Overview on Models and Design Features

Information on Models

The good old camping toilet tent is no longer a humble abode made from a few poles with a sheet of tarpaulin wrapped around it for a bit of privacy. Toilet tents are now quite sophisticated with zip doors, ventilation windows, and storage pockets making the whole camping experience a lot more civilized, comfortable and hygienic.

Camping tent toilets are usually made from taffeta nylon, polyester or cotton. One of the most popular UK brands is Lulu, made by the Sunncamp brand. It uses fiber glass poles making it lightweight and compact when folded down.

At one meter square, with a centre height of 195cm there is plenty of room inside. The Lulu tent is usually priced at less than 50 pounds and can be purchased from most outdoor recreation stores.

Another supplier of toilet tents in the UK is the Mobile Gas Direct Limited Camping and Caravan Co. They supply single and double cotton utility tents, wash rooms, or portable change rooms. They have sloping roofs and they’re made from strong weatherproof durable fabrics. The design is quite simple but if you’re just looking for a roof over your head and a zip door for a bit of privacy these cotton toilet tents could be a good option.

Phillips manufactures one called the “Pup” which can provide privacy for a portable toilet or solar shower. It stands just less than 2 meters tall and is supported by reinforced fiberglass poles and enclosed in taffeta nylon. It can take less than a minute to assemble and can be set up on uneven terrain, including snow or lake ice. It has great ventilation with three interior windows with one-way screens and zip doors. The Pup also has a Velcro ceiling flap that can accommodate a portable solar shower system.

If you’re looking for tents manufactured in the US, Great Outdoor Tents make a toilet tent called the Quick System Privacy tent, model number 77006. Unlike the other models mentioned above it comes with a folding toilet and solar shower. It has polyethylene top and sides, an aluminum frame and a polyethylene ground cover. It weighs 10.9 kg (24 pounds) and is relatively quick and easy to set up.
