Pop Up Tent Trailer - Benefits
A pop up tent trailer tends to look a bit like a tent on wheels. They allow campers the opportunity to have the outdoor tent experience while enjoying a bit more comfort and protection from the elements.
These camping companions are also referred to as a fold down campers, folding camping trailers, tent trailers or simply as a pop up.
What are the Benefits of a Folding Tent Trailer?
Most pop up tent trailers have collapsible sidewalls, made of canvas and a roof that is made of strong durable fiberglass. The pop up name comes from the unit’s ability to fold out into two large wings, which usually serve as sleeping areas. The base of the unit usually contains a mini refrigerator, small dinette, storage areas, and a gas cooker or cooking appliance of some kind. At the more expensive end of the scale, some models can also include a shower, toilet, heat and air-conditioning and more extensive cooking facilities.
Models range in weight from approx 1’500 to 4,000 pounds. They’re easily towable the lighter models can be towed by a standard passenger car, whereas the heavier models may require a SUV, truck, mini-van or large sedan.
Trailers are ideal for those who have a tighter vacation budget as they are considerably less expensive than many higher end RV’s. Their light weight also makes them less expensive to tow. You should be able to buy a new pop up for between $5,000 - $10,000.
The only major downside of a pop up tent trailer is that space can be at a premium compared to other RV’s. However, if you enjoy the outdoors and you have good weather on your side it is unlikely that you’ll spend much time indoors to let the lack of space be a concern.
Starcraft tent trailers and Rockwood tent trailers are also considered to be among the better brands.
