Luxury Leather Luggage and Care

Duffel Bags to Luxury Sets

Duffel Bag

Leather is a true symbol of luxury, and what more luxurious way to travel than with a set of leather luggage. There is a certain air of elegance that accompanies the owner of a set of luggage made from leather.

Whether it is a simple duffel bag from a small Italian boutique, or a complete hand made set of luggage from a top-end luggage designer, heads are sure to turn when people admire your bags.

One of the best things about this sort of luggage is that, like a fine wine, it gets better with age. While the initial outlay is extremely expensive (a complete set can set you back thousands of dollars), if you buy a good quality set, it is something you will benefit from for years.

While leather is a lovely material to have your luggage made from, it is not optimal if you are wishing to travel lightly. As it is a decidedly heavy material, a simple 22” suitcase can weigh up to twice that of your average nylon luggage – and that’s even before you start packing your belongings into it.

Maintanence and care needed

Another factor to consider when buying leather luggage is that it scuffs and marks easily. Remember that while you make take the utmost care when it is in your possession, luggage handlers see it as just another piece of luggage, and will throw it around just so. Scrapes and scratches in the material will appear easily (which some people believe adds to the character of the bag), but if you use a good polish and conditioner on the bag prior to using, then you may be able to prevent the damage from being too severe.

You can purchase a leather luggage set from a number of different places. There are a number of retailers that make mass produced luggage in various fashion styles, or your can buy it from a genuine Italian leather craftsman. Both are great options, and it depends on your tastes as to who you buy your products from. Italian leather luggage has a certain traditional look to it, whereas local manufacturers produce more modern looking products. Either way you will be presented with a product you will treasure for years.
