Wilderness Systems kayaks were born in 1986 when two friends got together to produce a series of handmade whitewater kayaks. Since then the company has grown dynamically and earned a great reputation for innovative design, quality construction and beautiful products.
Although the company began by making composite whitewater craft, their range now also covers recreational and touring kayaks in a variety of materials.
Sit on top
Perfect for recreational kayakers and fishing enthusiasts, sit on top kayaks are one of Wilderness Systems most popular products. The versatile Tarpon is one of the best selling sit on top kayaks on the market thanks to its stability, speed, storage capacity and excellent glide. They’re good in a variety of water conditions and are one of anglers’ favorite choices of kayak.
Another favourite is the speciality sit on top, the Kaos, a unique surf kayak with a serious planning hull. Perfect for riding the waves, the Kaos is rockered for manoeuvrability and features a deluxe day hatch and optional thigh straps.
Recreational kayaks
Wilderness Systems kayaks manufactures a full range of recreational vessels too. Their most popular is the Pungo, a great series of kayaks pushing comfort and stability as well as speed. The Pungo is a great choice for general kayaking with fast tracking and good all round action.
For a little more flexibility the Pamlico family of kayaks are good all rounders that can be taken up to class II whitewater. The tracking isn’t quite as good as the Pungo but manoeuvrability is a lot better making them an excellent choice is you like to vary your paddling experiences.
Touring
Wilderness Systems kayaks have a family of transitional touring kayaks as well as dedicated touring kayaks to make sure they’ve got a boat to suit every situation. Paddler-friendly and extremely comfortable, the Tsunami transitional tourers are light, versatile kayaks with a perfect blend of speed, stability, efficiency and storage. For serious kayak tourers the Tempest offers an ultra-comfortable cockpit, and a forgiving hull design which copes well with calm or choppy waters and makes long-distance kayaking a pleasure.
Fishing & sporting kayaks
Wilderness systems have also designed a range of sporting kayaks aimed at enthusiastic anglers and casual fishermen alike. With flat cockpits and excellent stability you can stand and cast without problem, there’s plenty of room for tackle boxes and lures and they’re easy to transport.
