Disney characters are one of the most popular themes for novelty picture frames worldwide, and along with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, Winnie the Pooh picture frames, t-shirts and soft toys feature heavily in that list.
A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh series of stories, telling the tale of Pooh bear and his friends, was first published in 1926. Four decades later, inspired by the wonderful illustrations within the book, which were all drawn by E.H. Shepard, Walt Disney decided to bring the characters to the big screen and in 1977, the first Winnie the Pooh feature length animation was released. It was called ‘The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh’ and became the first of many Disney cartoons featuring the lovable little bear and his friends, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga and Roo.

As with most Disney blockbusters, ticket sales are just one piece of the multi-million dollar revenue jigsaw. Products of all descriptions featuring characters and themes from the films are marketed and retailed in the run-up and aftermath of a big Hollywood hit. From t-shirts, story books and cuddly toys to stationery sets, calendars and posters, these products mean big money for the film companies.

But not many films go on to inspire children and adults for decades to come like Winnie the Pooh has. In fact, Disney recognized Pooh’s popularity in the 1990’s, by stating that the character was one of the company’s best-loved creations, second only, in fact, to the legendary Mickey Mouse
