Metal Picture Frames: Simple and Elegant
Guide4Home Recommendations - Foil and Wire Frame
When we think metal frames, we tend to imagine very stark, gritty colors like gray and graphite. But opting for metal does not mean you have to compromise on color; most framers now stock beautiful metallic frames, usually made using aluminum, in reds, blues and greens, and of course you can always opt for silver or gold if you are looking for something a bit more traditional.
One of the best features of a metal picture frame is its absolute simplicity. Opting for a frame that is clean-looking and uncomplicated means that whatever you are displaying within it can be viewed easily and will have the space to speak for itself. Portraits, in particular, look exceptionally effective when framed by metal.
Metal foil frames
Foil frame tend to use metals like copper, brass, aluminum, tin or zinc as they are strong yet pliable. You will find a variety of techniques incorporated into metal foil framing, such as embossing, punching and scoring as well as designs made up of cut out shapes.
Wire frames
You will probably have seen street sellers in the city making wirework picture frames and other small items, jewelry and gifts. One of the most popular styles is the ‘coil frame’, which is basically created by bending and curling wire into a coil. Of course, away from the streets this technique is used to create some equally weird and wonderful designs, often for very large and lucrative commissions.
