What are picture frame mats? We all know that a picture frame will help to protect a print, whilst hopefully complementing it well and adding to its beauty. What many people don’t realize, however, is that a custom made mat works in exactly the same way and can in fact be more important than the frame itself.

The Benefits of Using Photo Mats

First of all, a picture frame mat will help to stabilize your print and to keep it from crumpling or sliding within the frame. More importantly, it acts as a partition between the picture and the glass front of the frame. This air pocket is extremely important, especially when dealing with rare and valuable items, as it will help to minimize any damage caused by condensation.
