Clear Acrylic is an excellent alternative to glass where picture frames are concerned, not only in terms of resistance to breakage but in terms of protection against potentially damaging ultra violet light. When framing color prints, a good quality Lucite or acrylic frame will pay dividends in the long run as it will help to minimize fading caused by both natural and artificial UV light.

Another advantage of acrylic picture frames is that they weight less than those made with glass; this is something that you should take into consideration if you are hanging the frame on a wall, in particular a relatively weak internal wall.

The total weight of the picture frame is also important if your order is being shipped out to you, perhaps from a mail order company or an online distributor, as clear acrylic picture frames will work out less expensive than glass.

One aspect of acrylic and lucite that you should be aware of is that it is more susceptible to scratching than regular glass is, so try to be careful when hanging and cleaning the article.

For a really clean, modern look, try framing your photos and pictures in frames made entirely of acrylic, i.e. those that do not have a frame made of wood, metal or any other alternative material.
