Fireplace Screens - Protect your Floor from Sparks & Embers
What's available?
Fireplace screens are a must for wood burning fireplaces as they keep hot embers, sparks and logs off the carpet or flooring. They also serve as a protective barrier between young children and the fire. As well as being a functional accessory they also serve as a beautiful decorative addition to both wood burning and gas fireplaces. There is a huge variety of fireplace screens in different styles, shapes and sizes to suite every hearth. Most designs consist of motifs and patterns made in the metal mesh but some use glass to create a more ambient feel.
Custom designed screens can add a touch of personality to a fireplace but there are also a countless number of factory made designs to choose from. Most screens consist of a metal frame with either metal mesh or glass panels. Metals used in fireplace screens include wrought iron, steel, copper, brass and chrome. There are a number of styles and finishes to choose from such as hand-forged rustic wrought iron, elegant steel or ornate copper. Some are even decorated with ceramic, crystal or glass trimmings that glow in the light from the flames for added effect.
Fireplace screens can come included as part of a fireplace glass door set or they can be free-standing metal structures. Those that come included with glass doors usually consist of a wire mesh barrier attached to the door frame on the side nearest the fire. With these the designs and motifs tend to be confined to the glass doors rather than on the screen itself. Glass doors are becoming an increasingly popular accessory but there are still many consumers who still favor a more traditionally decorated fireplace. This doesn't mean having to sacrifice on the convenience of a gas fireplace. Gas logs are a practical alternative to wood burning fireplaces as they look realistic and are easy to use. A number of consumers are opting for these and combining them with conventional accessories for an authentic look. This means fireplace screens are not confined to use with wood fireplaces.
