Fireplace fenders

Fireplace fenders are low laying metal structures that are most commonly made from wrought iron, cast iron or solid brass. They come in a huge variety of styles from intricate and delicate patterns to more modern, simple designs. Antique reproduction fenders are a very popular decorative accessory for traditional wood burning fireplaces and gas fireplaces alike.

Fenders are functional as well as decorative and serve as a barrier between the fire and the flooring or carpeting in front of the firebox opening. They keep fire logs from rolling out of the fireplace while at the same time keeping small children away from the hot flames. In past times it also kept the long skirts of lady's dresses out of the fire.
