Custom Curtains - Drapes Made to Your Requirements
If you have individual requirements, such as an odd-shaped window or a unique design in mind then having drapes custom made could be the answer. Ordering custom curtains over the Internet is just as easy as walking into a shop. Simply select your fabric and design from the online swatches and send your measurements in an email. Browse the different designs available online, decide on a fabric and style of drapes, and then email the curtain makers with your choices and the measurements. Another option is to buy the type of fabric you want and ship it to the curtain makers, giving you a wider choice.
A Guide to Measuring for Custom Curtains
In old houses the walls may not be completely even or totally flush with the floor. For a door space for instance measure the distance between the top of the door and floor on both sides as they may not be the same and use the highest figure. Likewise corners may not be perfect 90º angles. Use a metal tape for a more accurate measurement and double-check your measurements.
If you have a track or curtain pole in place then use that as a guide. Measure the width of the track or pole and the distance between the track/pole and floor - not the actual window frame itself. Decide on the length you want for your custom curtains. Do you want them to go down to the floor or just below the window sill?
If your window or door does not have a curtain rod or track then you will have to allow for it in your measurements. When measuring the width leave at least 6" either side of the window to allow for the curtains to be pulled back completely. The track or pole should be positioned midway between the ceiling and the top of the window or door or at least 4 inches above the window frame, whichever makes most sense in your window.
