Copper is a metal with a long history of human use. It’s warm, rich color can look amazing if used sparingly in kitchens. Copper countertops are constructed using large pieces of copper sheeting. Because most countertops are made from a single sheet of copper there are no seams to detract from it’s the beauty. The color of polished copper is golden brown, but oxidization quickly affects the metal and it darkens and gains more of greenish hue. Many people prefer this rustic, aged look in their kitchen.

It is not recommended that you cut directly on copper countertops, because as with all metal countertops this can damage the clear protective coat over the copper and tarnish the affected area. However, since copper is a particularly soft metal, you may want to reconsider using it for countertops that will receive heavy use.
You can also buy all-in-one copper kitchen countertops that include an integrated copper sink. The advantage of these systems is that there is no rim or edge where the countertop and sink meet, preventing moisture and food scraps from becoming trapped.

It is possible to install your own copper countertop. Copper is a relatively easy material to work with, but this also means it is easy to damage. Therefore patience and care are of the utmost importance when planning how to install your own copper countertop.
