York Air Conditioners Company Profile
Big on Single Room Air Condtioning
It was in 1914 that the first York air conditioner was installed in the Empire Theater in Alabama, one of the first of its kind, and in 1924 York installed an air conditioner in the San Joaquin Light & Power building in California making it the first air conditioned office building.
The first room air conditioners were developed by York and this led to a large number of impressive contracts and installations, consequently bringing York air conditioners a huge amount of recognition and an excellent reputation. Some of its more impressive installations include providing a sophisticated marine chiller system for the Seawolf submarine of the US Navy; provided cooling systems for a majority of the venues for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City; a cooling system for the English Channel tunnel and supplying the Nato Fleet with refrigeration and air conditioners for all manner of commercial vessels.
Aside from a slight upset in 2001 when York, along with other major companies, rallied for a rollback on the minimum efficiency standards from SEER 13 to 12 the company is extremely environmentally conscious. York air conditioners have SEERs values from 10 to 16 and have taken a number of steps to make their products more environmentally friendly.
Such steps include removing transformers containing PCBs (Polychlorinated biphenyls); using chlorine-free refrigerants only; deactivating and removing all underground storage tanks; using powder-based paints on their units to reduce waste emissions and filtering all coolants and recycling any metal shavings found.
