Goodman Air Conditioners

Here we review Goodman air conditioners, which are available in a wide range of models from central to portable air conditioners for residential, commercial and industrial use. Goodman has managed to make a good reputation for itself by providing good quality air conditioners that are efficient in both function and energy.

Goodman was originally founded in 1982 by Harold V. Goodman as a manufacturer of plastic blade registers and flexible air ducts. In the same year Goodman purchased Janitrol® and changed the company’s focus to central air conditioners and heat pumps. Goodman air conditioners are now sold internationally through a number of different distributors such as GMC, Janitrol and Amana.

It is the largest privately owned company in the industry and the second largest company in the industry as a whole. Being a private, family-run business means that great pride and care is taken in what the company does. This has certainly paid off over the years as Goodman has developed a well-known and reliable range of brands.

All Goodman air conditioners come with an extended warranty called the GoodCare® Extended Service Agreement that covers customers for repair or replacement of parts for up to 10 years. This gives extra coverage on top of the standard warranty by providing cover for labor and additional years of cover depending on which plan is taken out. This warranty is affordable and transferable meaning that if you decide to move before your 10 year guarantee is up the new homeowner will be able to take over your current warranty at no extra cost.

In April 2001 Goodman was praised for being one the first companies in the industry to fully support an increase in the minimum efficiency standards for air conditioners. Many of the other large companies including Trane, Carrier and York, pushed for a roll back on this standard from 13 to 12 SEER.

Fortunately in January 2004 the US Appeals Court directed the US Department of Energy to reinstate the higher standard of SEER 13 with the support of the entire industry which means more energy efficient and economic air conditioners will be made more affordable.
