Carrier Air Conditioners

Carrier air conditioners have been declared one of the most energy efficient brands in the industry and have also been getting very good reviews for their Silencer sound insulation which significantly reduces noise levels. Most Carrier central air conditioners meet, and in many cases exceed, the energy efficiency requirements set by the Energy Star Program.

Carrier has built up quite a reputation over the years and has managed to secure some very prestigious air conditioner installations such as the Sistine Chapel, Mount Vernon and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. You can find out more about these impressive installations on the Carrier website. See below for contact information.

Carrier created the first safe and efficient air conditioner and came up with Rational Psychometric Formulae which are still used to this day as part of the calculations made for producing air conditioners. The term ‘air conditioner’ was coined by another engineer, Stuart H. Cramer, who used it to describe a machine that was used in textile plants to add water vapor to the air to keep it moist, thereby helping to keep the yarn conditioned.

Carrier’s first customer was a New York printer who couldn’t print satisfactory color images due to the fluctuating humidity in the air which kept changing the dimensions of the paper and so caused the inks to misalign. The first Carrier unit was installed to control these fluctuating temperatures and reduce the humidity in the air and resulted in one very happy printer. But the company didn’t patent this ‘Apparatus for Treating Air’ until 1906 and it wasn’t until 1942 that these air conditioners were used for human comfort as well as for industrial use.

The Environmental Protection Agency awarded Carrier for its environmentally friendly innovations such as manufacturing air conditioners that only use chlorine-free refrigerants and the production of commercial air conditioners that use non-ozone depleting refrigerants.
