KitchenAid Appliances - Mixers and Washers
KitchenAid profile and product range
KitchenAid appliances and products are renowned for their distinctive 1930s style and old fashioned durability. The brand is familiar to several generations of Americans who have grown up with their appliances. The Smithsonian Institute recently honored the KitchenAid stand mixer as an ‘American Icon’and placed it in their Washington, D.C. museum.
KitchenAid products burst onto the baking scene in 1908 when Herbert Johnson, an engineer and later President of the Hobart Manufacturing Company in Troy, Ohio, developed a labor saving machine for mixing bread dough. Professional bakers began to use this device and then in 1919 the KitchenAid brand really started cooking when it introduced the first electrical “food preparer” for the home.
In the 1950s, new colors, such as petal pink, sunny yellow, island green, satin chrome and antique copper, were introduced which was a bold departure from the traditional white appliances. However, the basic design of the stand mixer still remains unchanged to this day.
Over the years, new products were introduced, with the KitchenAid dishwasher making its debut in the late 1940s. Since then the product line has grown immensely with a full line of major home appliances including cooking (food processors, mixers, coffee makers, refrigerators, built in ovens, cooktops) and cleaning products (dishwashers, washers, dryers, compactors, faucets, sinks)
