What is available - Compact Countertop Models
Tabletop dishwashers are much the same as the countertop models. They are very compact and designed for any kitchen with limited space. Tabletop dishwashers can be placed on most flat surfaces that are convenient and out of the way. They are about the same size as a large microwave oven – often being completely square. Measurements of 20 x 20 x 20 inches are common for tabletop dishwashers.
They may be small, but tabletop dishwashers usually have all the same features as their fully-sized under-counter equivalents. Expect to find at least three wash options on better models (heavy, normal and light) and such features as rinse aid indicators and anti-flood devices. Some designs will have a viewing window to let you see inside the appliance while it is in operation.
The best new models are also incredibly efficient, achieving top energy and water efficiency ratings. However, some cheaper models of tabletop dishwasher can be excessively noisy – over 60 decibels in some cases. So, choose carefully and be prepared to pay more if you desire both an efficient and a quiet tabletop model.
Most tabletop dishwashers have a limited capacity of four or five entire place settings, compared to a 10 to 14 place setting capacity on full size dishwashers. This makes countertop models most suitable for small kitchens in small households such as apartments with only one or two people. Therefore they are ideal for retired people, those who live alone or young couples.
Bosch, Zanussi, Haier and Equator are currently some of the more respected dishwasher brands.
